What to do when my Game Analysis takes too long?
Game Analysis runs Stockfish directly in your browser, on your own device, nothing is sent to a server for analysis. That is why the speed depends entirely on the machine you are sitting at. As a benchmark: on a MacBook Pro M4 (2024), a two-year-old laptop in daily use, a full review of one game takes about 2 seconds. On an iPhone 12, a four-year-old phone in daily use, the same review takes up to 10 seconds. If a review feels slow, try this: switch to an up-to-date browser (Safari, Google Chrome or Edge, which run WebAssembly far faster than older ones), close the heavy tabs competing for your CPU, and if you can, run the review on a stronger device such as a laptop or a desktop instead of a phone. For comparison: chess.com computes its game reviews in the cloud, on their own servers. That kind of compute is expensive, which is why it sits behind a paid membership. We give you Game Analysis completely free, and the trade-off is exactly this: the engine runs on your device, so an older phone simply needs a few more seconds. It is still the same Stockfish, and the same analysis. It just asks for a little patience. One last thing, in case it does not just feel slow but shows a red error or never starts: that almost always means the page is open inside another app's built-in browser, for example a link tapped inside Instagram, Facebook or TikTok. Those in-app browsers run a stripped-down engine that Game Analysis cannot use. Open ChessRank.org in a real browser instead (Safari, Chrome or Edge) and it will run normally.
